In his autobiography, Bob Cockney Nuligak spoke about the disease that led to Kitigaaryuk being abandoned in 1902: “That summer the Kitigariuit [Kitigaaryungmiut, the people of Kitigaaryuk] people fell ill and many of them died. […] It was 1902. Mother, my little brother Irkralugaluk and I joined those who were leaving”.
