Cache Point

700 Years Ago

Our Ancestors lived at Cache Point 600-700 years ago. At that time, this important site was likely an island in the East Channel of Kuukpak (Mackenzie River). In summer, they lived in tents and hunted beluga whales migrating along the shallow channel between the site and the mainland. They also netted several types of fish. In winter, they lived in igluryuit, houses made of sod and driftwood. There are remains of at least 25 dwellings at the site.
