Once upon a time when giants were plentiful in the land and to them the people looked like ants, there was a tribe of giants who were friendly in and around Unalakleet, Alaska. These giants were braggarts, even if they were friendly-boasters. Everyone knew they were strong, that could not be denied. They showed it by deed beyond any shadow of a doubt.
The giants were wise and big. They could walk across the Bering Strait without going up to their waists in water so it was not unusual for some person to hitch a ride across the Strait, piggyback on a giant for a visit to some relative on the Siberian side.
In those days, they had a very close relationship with these people.

Now the giants heard from the people that they would like to have a place out in the sea, not too far from the shore, where they could hunt in the spring when the seals are basking in the sun.

Now this giant was strong indeed. He was powerful. So he went to one of the mountains that was near the seashore and took it out of the ground. A whole big mountain. Imagine that!
Now, this island was about 3 to 5 kilometers long and about 0.8 to 1.2 kilometers wide and about 11 to 13 kilometers off the seashore from the mainland… and he got it ready.
He picked out two of the strongest and longest blades of grass he could find that grew around there and snatched the end of this mountain and made a pack for himself.
