Kuukpak

Kuukpak, meaning ‘big river’ in Sallirmiutun, was once the main winter village and summer beluga hunting grounds of our Kuukpangmiut ancestors, many of whose descendants live in Tuktuuyaqtuuq today. The site, which stretches for almost a kilometer along the shore of Kangmallit Bay, has more than 20 winter houses. Others have been lost to erosion. This ancestral village was inhabited for some 500 years until the late 1800s.
