Pokiak

Pokiak is located on a small lake that is connected to Imaryuk, also known as ‘Husky’ Lakes, and contains the remains of at least ten sod houses. One of these houses was occupied for many years, stretching into the post-European contact period. This site is named for the late Randal ‘Boogie’ Pokiak, whose family has a longstanding camp here. Boogie was an esteemed community historian, Inuvialuit negotiator and advocate from Tuktuuyaqtuuq, and part of a prominent family of hunters and trappers.
