Qugyuk

Qugyuk, which means ‘swan’ in Inuvialuktun, is a complex and long-used site located on the north shore of Harrowby Bay, Cape Bathurst Peninsula, N.W.T. A long sequence of communities lived at this site, including our Inuvialuit ancestors. Archaeologists call the toolkits of earlier groups who lived here between 3100-2600 BC and 2600-2050 BC the Northwest Microblade and Arctic Small Tool traditions respectively. The earliest groups (Northwest Microblade tradition) camped seasonally at the site and focused on hunting herds of caribou, muskox, and probably bison.
