Many Caches

Many Caches is a large site stretching along the cliffs that overlook the Hornaday River and Uyarsivik Lake. When caribou crossed in summer, Inuvialuit families, many of whom now live in Paulatuuq gathered to harvest here. They built caches from limestone slabs and willow to protect and store food and tools, sometimes marking them with rocks to make them easy to find. Hunting blinds, qayaq rests, akutat (stone pavements) and many generations of campsites reflect the long use of this important place.
