Niaqulik (Head Point)

Niaqulik (Head Point) is located where the coastal plain drops abruptly to the flats at the mouth of the Babbage River.

Traditionally, this was a rich and common stopping place for Inuvialuit living on the coast and people travelling from Old Crow to Qikiqtar̂uk (Herschel Island).

Families lived here year-round in sod houses, skin tents, and later frame houses, including the Kûrugaqs, Inglangasuks, Irigaqtuaqs and Aluniqs, whose descendants live in present-day Aklavik and Inuvik. Other remnants of family life include ice houses, grave markers, and sod quarries.
