Who We Are
Ublaami. Uvlaami. Ublaakut. This means good day in our three dialects of Inuvialuktun! In all three, Inuvialuuyuanni means ‘we are Inuvialuit’, the Real People, Inuit of what is now called the Canadian Western Arctic. We have lived in Inuvialuit Nunangat, our homeland, since long before remembered time. We came together to sign the Inuvialuit Final Agreement in 1984. Today we make our homes in the six thriving communities of Aktlarvik, Ikaahuk (Sachs Harbour), Inuuvik, Paulatuuq, Tuktuuyaqtuuq and Ulukhaqtuuq, and around the world. In this section we share who we are: our unique way of seeing the world, our languages, our histories, and our styles of governance.
