Canalaska Trading Company

The Canalaska Trading Company was established in 1925 by Theodore Pederson, who previously had worked as captain of a whaling ship. Canalaska trading posts were established on Herschel Island and at Walker Bay on Victoria Island. Patterson also traded with Inuvialuit trappers from the several schooners that he owned and operated, which are remembered as a ‘floating store’. He also brought schooners north for Inuvialuit who were engaged in the fur trade. The Canalaska Trading Company was acquired by the Hudson's Bay Company in 1936.
