Timeline A
As Inuvialuit, we feel a deep responsibility to look after our land and water. Our lands include the full reach of the Inuvialuit Settlement Region that we call home—the mountains and valleys, tundra and pingos, permafrost and boreal forest. Our waters include Nunaryuam Qaangani Tariuq (Arctic Ocean or ‘ocean at the top of the world’), countless lakes and streams, and the snow and rain and fog in the sky. These are the places and spaces we travel and camp, hunt and pick and fish, visit and rest, watch the weather, think and reflect, love and laugh, spend time with our families. Our responsibility is to keep these places clean, to live well and in harmony, to take care and protect what is ours. This section shows where we live as Inuvialuit, our relationships to the places where our camps and traditional sites and ancestors are, where the animals and plants grow and flourish, and where our deep histories and future responsibilities lie.
